This Microsoft Surface Pro 8 came to Geld Technologies because it would only power on with its power adapter connected. We replaced the faulty battery and renewed the thermal paste. Following the repair, the Surface was operating normally again.
Before the repair
During diagnosis, the battery was not charging or drawing charging current. Together with the inability to power on without the adapter, these findings led us to identify a faulty battery in this unit.
The display was removed to gain access to the internal components. The following photos show the battery removal, replacement and thermal paste work.
Our repair process
Removing and replacing the faulty battery
We dismantled the Surface to access and remove the faulty battery, then prepared the replacement battery for installation.
Thermal paste replacement and screen refitting
With the replacement battery installed, we renewed the thermal paste before refitting the cooling assembly. The screen was then refitted and held in place with clamps during rebonding.
After the repair
Following battery replacement, thermal paste replacement and reassembly, the Surface was operating normally again. The completed-device photo shows it powered on at the Windows lock screen.
